September: Anew
“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall." ~F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
Autumn and its harvest celebrations, is just as much about beginnings as it is endings, and many cultures around the world celebrate the New Year around the ripening and reaping of certain crops. The Egyptians, Phoenicians, and Persians all marked the New Year at the fall equinox and the Sanskrit word for 'year' comes from the word for autumn.
When the larder is full with the gifts of the land, we can pause in our labours and give thanks that another growing season passes so that we may be sustained, yet again, in the dark half of the year. We take stock of our storerooms and begin the shift from one season into another. It is a good time of year to put our households in order so they are clean and comfortable as the cooler temperatures move us slowly indoors. Flip the mattresses. Check the furnace filter, Dust the corners. In the garden we add this year's spent plants to the compost heap for next year's fertility. Garlic is a fall-sown crop.
Autumn is a time of reflection as we look back on the busy, fertile season, begin our fall routines and make plans for the coming months. We can also spend a little more time on self-care, get a bit more sleep and nourish our bodies before cold and flu season approaches.

This month's box will be all about celebrating beginnings and abundance instead of lamenting endings and loss. In it you will find products to help you gently transition into the fall season. There will be something yummy to put up in your own larder ahead of winter. You will find an all-natural, herbal cleaning product or two to help you with your chore list. Look for herbs to support the skin and body through the changing season. Clean the air with an herbal burning wand. Some of the herbs you may meet in this month's box could include calendula, juniper, cedar, chokecherry and more. Joyfully release the summer and begin anew with the rich, bounty of autumn.
Boxes are offered with sliding scale prices. To learn more about sliding scale pricing, please read this post. But basically, in a nut shell (pun intended!), I invite you to pay one of the reduced fees, if paying the full price would cause you to be less secure in your ability to meet your food, health, housing or essential transport needs. To determine where you fall on the scale when choosing which price to pay, please refer to this infographic created by Alexis J. Cunningfolk (Click image to enlarge).
