May: Spring Self-Care
"Nourishing yourself in a way that helps you blossom in the direction you want to go is attainable, and you are worth the effort."
~ Deborah Day
The health food industry uses the spring season to market all manner of cleanses and detoxes, from liver flushes to master cleanses, and while I do believe that transitioning into a new season is a good time to support the body, many of these cleanses are overly harsh, unnecessary and expensive. Our bodies are designed to detox on an ongoing basis, and with adequate sleep, natural movement and a diverse, whole foods diet, our organs of elimination are able to do their jobs much more effectively than periodic detox products and diets.

"In my mind a detox is not something we force on our body because it doesn't know how to work. Instead each person's entire body can be analyzed for health, and if appropriate, herbs, food and lifestyle changes like exercise and deep sleep can help the body do its job." ~Rosalee de la Foret
This month's box will include products that help support the body's transition from one season into the next with gentle, nourishing herbs rich in nutrients and minerals. In your box you may find a milky oats tea and/or tincture (mineral rich, nervine trophorestorative), some delicious dandelion vinegar (mineral rich, alterative, liver support), inulin rich Jerusalem artichoke powder (prebiotic, microbiome health), balm of Gilead body scrub (moisturising, stimulating, antiseptic) and maybe an alder tincture too (lymphatic, alterative, antiseptic).
In the newsletter learn about the body's pathways of elimination, common symptoms when these pathways are out of balance, how to restore that balance, and why you don't need to do harsh cleanses or detoxes to do it. Read about why it's important to make time for on-going self care all year long!

Boxes are offered with sliding scale prices. To learn more about sliding scale pricing, please read this post. But basically, in a nut shell (pun intended!), I invite you to pay one of the reduced fees, if paying the full price would cause you to be less secure in your ability to meet your food, health, housing or essential transport needs. To determine where you fall on the scale when choosing which price to pay, please refer to this infographic created by Alexis J. Cunningfolk (Click image to enlarge).
Please note: As of April 1st, HST will be charged on all products.
