April: The Bark Box

April: The Bark Box

The earth is waking up! Creeks are running, Birds are singing. Sap is flowing. Early spring is the season of bark medicine. Each year I carefully prune the branches and young twigs of alder, willow, crampbark and cherry, among others, to work with the healing gifts these plants so generously offer. I love the sharp, clean scent of willow's salicylates and the bitter almond smell of cyanogenic glycosides in cherry bark. Alder bark is smooth and shiny under my fingers, the stripped branches oxidising to a deep, burnt orange.

April's box will explore bark medicine and will feature ethically harvested bark from birch, willow, alder, crampbark, cherry, aspen and peach trees.

Products are subject to change and variation, but will likely include:
  • Birch Twig Tea (Dried herb.)
  • Wild Cherry Bark Syrup (Made with a cold extraction of cherry bark, honey and preserved with brandy.)
  • Peach Bark Tincture (Alcohol extract.)
  • Alder & Aspen Bitters (Alcohol extract.)
  • Willow & Crampbark Fomentation (Dried herb.) (Large box only.)
  • Catkin Powder (Dried herb.) (Large box only.)

Boxes are offered with sliding scale prices. To learn more about sliding scale pricing, please read this post. But basically, in a nut shell (pun intended!), I invite you to pay one of the reduced fees, if paying the full price would cause you to be less secure in your ability to meet your food, health, housing or essential transport needs. To determine where you fall on the scale when choosing which price to pay, please refer to this infographic created by Alexis J. Cunningfolk (Click image to enlarge).

Large boxes contain 6 products. Small boxes contain 4 products. Taxes and shipping are calculated at checkout. Shipping costs are waived if you are able to pick up your box at the Just Food Farm (You will receive an email when your box is ready.)
Shipping in Canada only. You do not need a Paypal account to make your purchase.
